Q:
How do you replace the input and output speed sensors on Honda Fit? Posted by Customer
A:
For 2007 and 2008 models, the input and output speed sensors are located on the top rear of the transaxle, applicable only to automatic transaxle applications, with the input shaft speed sensor being the outboard sensor and the output shaft speed sensor the innermost. Manual transaxle models utilize a single Vehicle Speed Sensor located at the rear of the transaxle. To replace the input shaft speed sensor on automatic transaxles, first disconnect the negative battery cable, remove the air filter housing, and take out the battery along with its tray and base. Unbolt the transmission fluid filter bracket and position the filter aside without disconnecting the hoses, then disconnect the electrical connector from the speed sensor, unscrew the mounting bolt, and remove the sensor. Installation follows the reverse order, ensuring a new O-ring is used, lubricated with clean transmission fluid, and the mounting bolt is tightened to the specified torque. For the output shaft speed sensor, remove the air filter housing, disconnect the electrical connector, unscrew the mounting bolt, and remove the sensor, again reversing the process for installation with a new O-ring and proper lubrication. For manual transaxles, remove the air filter housing, disconnect the electrical connector from the Vehicle Speed Sensor located at the top rear of the transaxle, unscrew the mounting bolt, and remove the sensor, ensuring to use a new O-ring and lubricate it during installation. For 2009 and later models, the input shaft speed sensor is located on the rear part of the transaxle and accessible from above; the procedure is similar, starting with the removal of the air filter housing, disconnecting the electrical connector, unscrewing the mounting bolt, and removing the sensor, followed by installation with a new O-ring and lubrication. The output shaft speed sensor is located on the rear of the transaxle, accessible from above on automatic transaxles and from below on manual transaxles. For automatic models, begin by removing the air filter housing, while for manual models, raise the vehicle securely on jack stands. Disconnect the electrical connector, unscrew the mounting bolt, and remove the sensor, ensuring to reverse the process for installation with a new O-ring and proper lubrication.
