Four-cylinder models with a manual transaxle have only the output shaft speed sensor located on the front of the transaxle. V6 models with a manual transaxle have their input and output shaft speed sensors on the transaxle's front, left of the starter motor and an automatic transaxle has the input at the left front corner of the transaxle and the output on top of the transaxle. Disconnect the electrical connectors, remove the sensors, and throw away the O-rings, using a new O-ring. Installation is the reverse of removal. Enter the anti-theft code and reset the radio, clock, and power window control unit.

CR-V models have their output shaft speed sensor located on the transaxle backside or near the fluid level dipstick. Remove the air filter housing in the case of Civic 1.8L and early CR-V models. In the case of Civic 2.4L, one needs to raise the vehicle, put it on jack stands, and remove the splash shield. Disconnect the sensor's electrical connector, remove mounting bolt and sensor, and throw away the O-ring. To install a new O-ring securely tightening bolt reverse these steps.

To remove the input shaft (mainshaft) speed sensor, first remove the air filter housing. For additional room, you may want to remove the battery and battery tray (if necessary). Then, disconnect the electrical connector from the input shaft speed sensor. Remove the input shaft speed sensor mounting bolt and remove the sensor. Finally, remove and discard the sensor O-ring.

The input shaft speed sensor is at the left front corner of the transaxle, while the output shaft sensor is on top of the transaxle, near its backside.
