Before pulling the oil pan you need to first connect the car negative terminal, block the rear wheels engage the parking brake and then jack up the front using jack stands. Secondly, it is required to dismantle the lower splash shield, to drain oil from the engine and to open the oil filter case. Loosen the bolts holding the end of the exhaust pipe to the manifolds and to the flange on the end of the catalytic converter and take off the pipe. If on the later modeles the J35A7 engine has been installed, it is required to remove the cover on the CKP sensor, loosen the bolt and disconnect the wire of the sensor. After that, the torque converter cover is to be removed and the bolts around the perimeter of the oil pan as well as the oil pan-to-transaxle case bolts have to be removed in their turn and finally, the oil pan has to be lowered. If the pan is stuck then try to use a blunt instrument on the tabs at the corners of the casting so as not to gouge the gasket area. For installation remove all previous sealant from the block and oil pan, DO NOT scratch the aluminum block use a scraper and clean the mating surfaces with lacquer thinner or acetone. Ensure that the threaded holes on the block have been cleaned, examine the oil pump pick-up for signs of damage and lay down a new gasket on the oil pan. Put the oil pan carefully on the engine block and put the bolts in the holes, and then tighten them to the given torque in stages. The rest of the removal process is done in reverse with extra care to put new oil and also an oil filter. However if the oil pump has been replaced ensure that you take at least 20 minutes for the sealant to dry before you put oil. Last but not the least, join the battery connection and start the engine, to observe for oil pressure and mechanically check for oil leaks.
