    Q:
How to remove and reinstall the oil pan on 3.1L V6 engine on Honda Passport? Posted by Customer
    A:
The following procedure is based on the fact that the engine remains mounted in the car; if not, remove the oil pan by unbolting it from the block. Stat with the removal of the negative battery terminal and then draining the engine oil. Take out the starter motor and, if required for the purposes of providing clearance, disconnect the exhaust pipes from the manifolds. On 4wd models, the front skid plate has to be unbolted and the front crossmember has to be disconnected. At Trooper models, remove the catalytic converter bolts and then disconnect the front driveshaft from the pinion flange. Take off the braces around the flywheel cover plate and indicate the Pitman arm and shaft for assembly. So, it is necessary to turn the Pitman arm and idler arm to remove it from the shaft, and remove the short rubber tube in front the axle vent. It is recommended to use jackstands to support the front axle assembly after which removing the bolts that are situated between the right and left axle housing isolators so as to lower the front axle housing. Loosen the oil pan mounting nuts/bolts and gently lift the pan off the block, do not pry for to avoid damaging the sealing surface. Remove any dirt deposits from the gasket sealing surfaces by washing with lacquer thinner or acetone, it also clean bolt holes in block. Inspect the oil pan flanges for evidence of distortion and, when required, correct the flanges to flat. Check both the outer and inner corners of the oil pan for deformation; if deep, replace with a new one. Use the RTV sealant on the rear cradle corners and the specified oil pan gasket kit is to be used. Place the pan in position against the block and loosely screw in the bolts, you then tighten these bolts with three successive revolutions in a rotational pattern from the center outward to the required specification. The remaining steps are simply the reverse of removal and one should be reminded that the engine should be filled with more oil before the engine is started. Last but not the least, step on the accelerator and slowly inspect if oil is dripping at the oil pan.
