Q:
How do you install and remove the exhaust manifold on 3.1L V6 engine on Honda Passport? Posted by Customer
A:
Disconnect the cable from the negative terminal then Jack up the front end of the car and do away with car stands. Jam on the parking brake and turn the rear wheels to lock the car from rolling. Loosen and take off the nuts which hold the exhaust pipe to the exhaust manifold and then take off the pipe from the manifold, it is advisable to lubricate the nuts with penetrating oil to ease their removal. Following is to take off four rear manifold bolts last of all, after that, take away the jackstands and lower the car. On the right manifold remove the air injection pump and alternator brackets and pull the spark plug wires and number them for reconnection. Exhaust manifold bolts need to be taken off and the manifold has to be detached from the engine. For the left manifold, it is necessary to remove the heat stove tube and the air cleaner assembly; all hoses should be labeled. Remove all the hoses connected to the manifold with particular focus to the air injection valve also it is worthwhile to label all the wires that maybe in the way of the manifold. Disconnect the power steering pump bracket from the cylinder head, for this unbolt the adjusting bracket bolt and then disconnect the drive belt from the pulley. Once the bracket is undone, it is advisable to set the pump assembly aside so that no hoses are disconnected with the top facing upwards in a bid to avoiding a fluid spillage. Last but not the least dismantle the remaining manifolds bolts and thereby detached the manifold and heat shield from the engine. Removal is the converse of installation and before re-fitting the cylinder head and manifold, they should be clean and after tightening, the bolts should be to the recommended torque.
