To remove the release lever, start by taking off the driver's side sill plate trim, then unbolt the trunk release lever handle from the sill. Disconnect the cable from the handle by rotating it 90 degrees until the cable end aligns with the open tab, and remove the cable. Installation follows the reverse order. In the trunk or rear compartment, remove the plastic clips securing the driver's side and rear inside finishing panels to access the fuel door assembly. For the trunk release cable, mark the location of the trunk latch bolts and latch assembly before unbolting the latch. Twist the cable ball end and cable 90 degrees to align with the open slot, then remove the cable retaining clips and follow the cable to the left side of the trunk, detaching any clips until reaching the rear wall, where you push out the grommet and remove the cable. To detach the fuel door release cable, unbolt the fuel door latch assembly, twist the cable ball end and cable 90 degrees to align with the open slot, and remove the cable. Next, remove the left door sill plate, rear seat, B pillar lower trim panel, and left rear quarter trim panel, pulling back the carpet to detach all cable retaining clips. Attach a string or thin wire to the end of the cable from the lever end, ensuring it is long enough to grab from inside the car after pulling the old cable through. From inside the trunk or rear compartment, pull the old cable assembly toward the rear of the vehicle, then remove it and attach the string or wire to the replacement cable. Guide the replacement cable through the body by pulling on the string or wire, reattach any retaining clips that were removed, and then reattach the cable to the latch and release lever, completing the installation in reverse order. For the electric trunk and fuel door release latch, remove the inner trunk lid trim panels if applicable, mark the location of the bolts and latch assembly before removal, disconnect the electrical connector, and remove the bolts securing the latch to the trunk lid before taking out the latch, with installation following the reverse order. For the fuel door release latch, remove the trunk liner trim on the fuel door side, disconnect the electrical connection or cable, unbolt the fuel door latch assembly, and remove it, with installation also being the reverse of removal.
