The stereo in your vehicle may be equipped with an anti-theft system; ensure to check the relevant information before detaching the battery cables. Begin by removing the steering column covers, instrument panel lower cover, and bolster. Next, remove the dashboard lower cover and disconnect the negative battery cable, followed by the positive battery cable. Trace the wire harness for the ignition switch/Ignition Lock Cylinder assembly to the fuse box under the left side of the dash, then unplug the connectors from the fuse box. Check the connector for continuity between the terminals with the key in each position; if continuity is not as specified, replace the switch. Unplug the seven-pin connector from the fuse box, insert the key, and turn it to the "O" position. Remove the two retaining screws and detach the switch, with installation being the reverse of removal. For the lock cylinder and steering column lock assembly, check the lock cylinder in each position to ensure it isn't worn or loose and that the key position corresponds to the markings on the housing; if faulty, the entire steering column lock assembly must be replaced. Disconnect the negative battery cable, then the positive battery cable, and remove the steering column cover and lower instrument panel. Lower the steering column by removing the retaining nuts. The lock assembly is clamped to the steering column by two shear-head bolts; use a center punch to make a dimple in each bolt's head, then drill them out with a 3/16-inch bit, or alternatively, make slots in the bolt heads and unscrew them. Separate the clamp and remove the assembly from the steering column. Place the new switch in position without the key inserted and tighten the bolts until snug, then insert the key and check the lock cylinder for proper operation, tightening the bolts until their heads break off. Finally, connect the positive battery cable, followed by the negative cable.
