    Q:
How to inspect and replace the Brake Line and Brake Proportioning Valve on Honda Passport? Posted by Customer
    A:
That means checking the flexible hoses, which connect the steel brake lines with the front and rear brakes, approximately every six months for cracks, chafing, leak, blisters and signs of other damage. Original replacement steel and flexible brake lines are available from dealers' parts counters or automotive accessory stores; care should be exercised to install only genuine replacement steel brake lines, or approved flexible brake hoses. During line installation for the brake, make sure that the required distance from the line at any place to any moving or vibrating part should be at least 3/4 inch (19 mm). Start with the removal of the brake flex hose connected to the metal brake line through the removal of the tube nut fitting by way of the flare nut wrench and removal of the large retainer clip using the pliers will enable one to pull out the hose through the bracket and in the same process the removal of the small spring clip. In some models, there is an additional clip and bracket which have to be also eliminated. The rear hose has the bracket and the clip on the axle tube and they are removed in the similar manner to that of the front. Fixed brake lines in steel can also be fastened by clips all along the span of the line; these clips must be removed in their entirety when replacing a fixed brake line and new ones must be arranged or purchased if necessary for providing stiffness and preventing vibrations which can cause the brake lines to break. Original-equipment brake hose fittings and other parts should always be used when replacing brake lines; copper tubing should not be used on any part of a brake system; replacement brake hoses with flared tube ends and attached fittings can be purchased from auto supply stores and dealers and, in some instances, preformed to correct shapes. Bleeding hydraulic system is instrumental especially after carriage out replacement of a hose or line. The brake proportioning valve, located in the engine compartment below the master cylinder, performs two functions: it works as a compensating valve in that it admits hydraulic pressure to the rear brakes in proportion to the hydraulic pressure built up after a certain level and also as a relief valve in case there is a failure in the rear brake circuit in that it ensures full pressure to the rear brake. To replace the brake proportioning valve, remove the low-fluid warning switch electrical connection, undo the four of the tube nut fittings for the brake lines and withdraw the valve retaining bolt.
