When replacing entire components, additional refrigerant oil should be added equal to the amount that is removed with the component being replaced. Be sure to read the can before adding any oil to the system to ensure compatibility with the R-134a system. First, have the refrigerant discharged and recovered by an air conditioning technician. Disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal. Remove the front bumper cover and then the condenser. For 2-door Civic and all CR-V models, remove the cap from the condenser. For 4-door Civic models, remove the two bolts and O-rings, then separate the A/C Accumulator from the condenser, which is replaced as a unit. For 2-door Civic and all CR-V models, remove the filter from the condenser and the A/C Accumulator desiccant using pliers. Installation is the reverse of removal; ensure new O-rings are installed onto the A/C Accumulator cap or mounting bolts, apply a thin film of refrigerant oil to the desiccant before installing it, and lubricate the O-rings with refrigerant oil. If the A/C Accumulator was replaced, add 1/3 fluid ounces (10 ml) of refrigerant oil to the condenser. Finally, reconnect the battery and have the system evacuated, charged, and leak tested by an air conditioning technician.
