    Q:
How to check and replace the cooling fan assembly if it is faulty for the Honda Odyssey? Posted by Customer
    A:
All models have two complete fan circuits - one for the condenser and one for the radiator. If the engine is overheating and the cooling fan assembly is not activating when the engine temperature is high, first check all fuses. If they are intact, unplug the fan motor electrical connector. To test either fan motor, disconnect the connector and use jumper wires to power the fan directly from the battery. If the fan doesn't function, replace the motor. Make sure to also test the condenser fan motor. If the radiator fan motor is working, but not activating when the engine heats up, it might be a relay issue. Locate the fan relays in the engine compartment fuse/relay box. Test the relay, and if they're functioning, test the radiator fan switches. These switches, based on engine temperature, control the fan operations. They can be checked using an ohmmeter. If all components are operational, inspect all wiring and connections to the fan motors. For replacement on models from 2004 and before: Disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal. Secure the vehicle, raise the front, and remove the lower splash pan from beneath the radiator. Take off the radiator cover, drain the cooling system, and if the coolant is still good, it can be reused. Remove the wiring harness clamp, vacuum hose, and radiator bracket. Extract the battery and battery tray, and disconnect the fan wiring connectors. Remove both the upper and lower radiator hoses. Disconnect the automatic transaxle hoses from the radiator. Remove the radiator and condenser brackets. For 2005 and later models: Disconnect the breather hose and air intake duct. Remove the battery and tray. Depending on the model year, either remove the grille top cover or the front bumper cover. Disconnect any interfering hoses, wiring, and clamps. Remove the coolant reservoir. For all models: Extract the upper bolts and slightly loosen the lower bolts of each fan shroud. Lift the fan(s) from the engine compartment. To separate the fan from the motor, remove the motor shaft nut. To detach the fan motor from the shroud, remove the mounting screws. Installation is the reverse of the removal process. Lastly, reconnect the battery.

    Q:
How to check and replace the Cooling Fan Assembly on Honda Pilot? Posted by Customer
    A:
On 2007 Acura MDX models, remove the radiator before removing the cooling fan assembly. If the engine is getting hot (or overheating) and neither of the cooling fans are coming on, check their fuses first. If the fuses are okay unplug the electrical connector for each fan motor and apply battery voltage to each one. Use a fused jumper wire on terminal A and another jumper wire going to the ground on terminal B. If either fan motor doesn't come on, replace it. If the fan motors are okay, check the fan relay(s). Locate the fan relays in the engine compartment fuse/relay box and in the smaller additional relay box in front of the Powertrain Control Module (PCM). Test the relays. If the fuses, motors and relays are functional, check all wiring and connections to the fan motors. if no obvious problems are found have the cooling fan system and circuits diagnosed by a dealer service department or repair shop with the proper diagnostic equipment. Remove the battery and battery tray. Remove the plastic cover over the radiator. Disconnect all electrical connectors and separate the wire harnesses on the fan shroud assemblies except for the harnesses attached directly to the fan motors. Remove the ground cable attached to the radiator support, if equipped. Drain the cooling system. if the coolant is relatively new or in good condition, save it and reuse it. Detach the upper radiator hose from the radiator and position it aside for access. Remove the hood latch. Remove the lower engine splash shield. Remove the bracket for the hood latch. Remove the radiator (driver's side) fan assembly mounting bolts pull the assembly up slightly (to release the bottom mounts) and then remove it through the opening created by the removed battery and tray. Remove the condenser fan assembly (passenger side) upper and lower mounting bolts, then remove the fan assembly through the opening mentioned in the previous sentence. To detach the fan from the motor, remove the motor shaft nut. To detach the fan motor from the shroud, remove the mounting screws. Installation is the reverse of removal. Be sure that the hood latch is properly aligned when installed. Be sure to fill the cooling system with the proper mixture of antifreeze and water and to check for leaks after the vehicle has reached normal operating temperature.
