Have the refrigerant discharged and recovered by an air conditioning technician. Remove the grille. Disconnect the electrical connector and the refrigerant lines. To remove the A/C Accumulator on 1997 and earlier vehicles, disconnect the electrical connector, unbolt the line to the evaporator, unbolt the line to the condenser and remove the clamp bolt. To remove the A/C Accumulator on 1998 and later models, disconnect the electrical connector, unbolt the line to the evaporator, unbolt the line to the condenser (the other end of this line is welded to the condenser) and remove the clamp bolt; to detach the left end of the condenser, remove this bolt from the A/C Accumulator and cap the open fittings to prevent entry of moisture. Loosen the clamp bolt and slip the A/C Accumulator out of the bracket. Installation is the reverse of removal. Have the system evacuated, charged, and leak tested by the shop that discharged it. If the A/C Accumulator was replaced, have them add new refrigeration oil to the compressor, about 20 cc (0.7 oz.) for R-12 systems, or 10 cc (0.34 oz.) for R-134a systems. Use only the refrigerant oil compatible with the refrigerant of your system (R-12 or R-134a).
