    Q:
How to remove and install a cylinder head on Four cylinder engine on Honda Accord? Posted by Customer
    A:
Before removal of the cylinder head, safely release fuel system pressure and join the lead of the negative terminal of the battery. You will need to drain the cooling system and if it applicable also remove the strut brace. Next to do is the drivebelt then the drivebelt tensioner along with the exhaust manifold, then the intake manifold with the injector base. First, the timing chain, camshafts and the rocker arm assembly ought to be taken off. The electrical connectors to the cylinder head that may hamper removal should be labelled and disconnected and any coolant hoses that maybe in the way should be removed. Loosen and then discard the cylinder head bolts in a particular manner, then well raise off the cylinder head from the engine using a wood block and some hammer gently in order to break in the gasket joint surfaces but should not pry between them. Set the cylinder head on wooden plies in order not to damage the gasket sealing faces and remove the cylinder head gasket. For installation the mating surfaces of the cylinder head and block must be clean: it is convenient to do this with the help of a scraper for gaskets and a solvent to remove residues. Look for any signs of wear on the mating surfaces and take the cylinder head for trueness check. Where the threads of the cylinder head bolts are obscured by the threads in bolt holes chase these with a tap of the appropriate size. Place the new gasket or rubber on the cylinder block and it must fit well with dowel pins and position of the gasket is correct. Place the cylinder head in the position on the engine block in such a manner that the gasket does not fully compress and use new cylinder head bolts for tightening to the torque recommended with the right sequence. Replace the rocker arm assembly, camshaft, timing chain, exhaust manifold and intake manifold taking the reverse order of those taken in the above procedures. The valve clearances have to be adjusted, then reconnect the battery and crank over the engine, which will require changing the engine oil and filter, filling up the cooling system and finally, if no oil or coolant leaks are seen, start the engine.
