    Q:
How do you remove and install the camshaft and related components on Honda Fit? Posted by Customer
    A:
To Removal of the components, it is essential to loose the battery negative terminal, and then the air filter housing and the valve cover. Bring the engine to TDC the UP mark of the camshaft sprocket and the alignment marks on the sprocket should be in the same line with the surface of the cylinder head. Put a finger on the timing chain and another one on the camshaft gear, after that, apply fresh engine oil on the timing chain tensioner. Loosen the cam plug on the front of the cylinder head and the bolt which is near the middle of the timing chain cover to get the timing chain tensioner arm. Order a 6 x 1.0 mm bolt to be screwed into the access hole. If the crankshaft pulley bolt is held firmly, the camshaft can be turned clockwise in relation to the camshaft sprocket bolt inserted through the cam plug hole, for the application of the 6 x 1.0 mm bolt. Bolt the timing chain in place using a plastic tie-strap and with an aid of wrench, loosen the bolt of the camshaft sprocket. Disconnect the sprocket from the camshaft so that it can be fixed on the cylinder head when the timing chain drops. Take off the rocker arm assembly and the Camshaft Position Sensor as well as the camshaft thrust cover; use an O-ring when installing it back again. On 2009 and later models do this: lock the camshaft from rotating and there remove the camshaft position sensor pulse plate. While performing the above steps it is advisable to have the camshaft horizontal so slide it out of the head. Examine camshaft bearing journals and cam lobe surfaces for signs of wear such as scores, flakes or pits. If wear is present replace the camshaft and determine the root of the problem. Check for the condition of the rocker arms for wear, galling and pitting before addressing lubrication problems before fitting new ones. To install, require that all pieces be thoroughly cleaned and the camshaft should be lubed on the bearing surfaces and the lobes. Place the camshaft through the opening in the thrust cover and put the camshaft position sensor pulse plate and the thrust cover with a new O-ring in place. This is a new item to be installed and before fitting it into the engine compartment, I lubricate the new O-ring that is fitted in the camshaft position sensor. Fit in the camshaft sprocket and fasten the bolt; thereafter, remove the bolt of the timing chain tensioner arm and fit the cam plug with a new O-ring. With the crankshaft mark pointing to the TDC for cylinder no 1, turn the camshaft until the sprocket has the UP mark at the twelve o'clock position before fitting the rocker arm assembly. Turn the crankshaft slowly in the other direction through two full revolutions and align the marks as per the sprockets and adjust if required. Last, reconnect the negative battery cable and start the engine, this has to be done to notice any more leakage.
