Vehicle operation is dependent on its drivebelts which are located at the front of the engine. An alternator and air conditioning compressor belt, as well as a power steering pump belt, exist. Regular checks and adjustments should be carried out on these belts to avoid damage. Some signs that could indicate the need for replacement of a belt include; cracks, fraying or unevenness in the belt ribs. The deflection can be measured to check the power steering belt tension. The alternator/air conditioning compressor belt tension is adjusted by an automatic tensioner. Replace the belt if the wear indicator is not within range. To set the tension, loosen the pump mounting bolt and nut then adjust the bolt when adjusting the power steering belt. It's a good idea to replace both belts at once during replacements. This entails loosening the right front wheel lug nuts; raising and supporting the vehicle; removing the wheel and drivebelt splash shield. After removing it, install a new one while ensuring it is centered on the pulleys. Replace the splash shield, wheel, and lug nuts then lower the vehicle down.
