Q:
How do you remove and install the Rocker Arm on Honda Prelude? Posted by Customer
A:
For the removal and installation of 2.2L (H22A1) engine the following procedures should be conducted: the negative battery cable first of all, then cylinder head and VTEC solenoid valve; the filler should be discarded. Securing the rocker arm assemblies with rubber bands, take out the intake and exhaust rocker shaft orifices, noting where they are. Take out the sealing bolts from the rocker arm shaft and dispose the washers inserted then screw 12mm bolts in the rocker arm shaft and reciprocate out the rocker arm and shafts. Take a closer look at the lost motion assemblies-you should be able to push them slightly inwards. In installation, washer orifices of the rocker shaft should be cleaned and new O-rings should be fitted, rocker arms and shafts should be cleaned and the contact surfaces should be lubricated before lost motion assemblies should be fitted. Replace the rocker arms and fit them back into their original positions making sure that the holes of rocker arm shafts are correctly positioned. Use a new filter to put the VTEC solenoid valve into place, and then torque the bolts which secure the rocker arm sealing. Last, fit the cylinder head, correct the relative position of valve tappet, connect battery terminals, set correct ignition sequence, and test the car on road. For the 2.2L (F22A1, F22A6, F2281, F2282) engines, remove battery, air intake duct, the PCV hose, and the rocker arm cover, next, remove the timing belt upper cover and make sure the No.1 cylinder is at TDC. Remove the distributor and spark plug connectors from the electrical connections, unbolt the power steering and mark the timing belt for reinstallation. Pry the timing belt off the camshaft sprocket, and then offer the removal of the camshaft sprocket bolt and the sprocket in as well. After turning the valve adjusting screws and camshaft holder bolts anticlockwise, and with an additional pull with the fingers, you can remove the camshaft holders and rocker arm assembly and note down the positions of all the parts. Replace the camshaft and the rocker arm assembly; apply oil to them before fitting them into the position, adjust the timing belt and control the position of valves. Grip up the crankshaft pulley bolt and fit the upper timing belt cover, rocker arm cover, and the PCV hose. Connect the battery, cranking the engine and looking for any dripping. First for the 2.3L engine, remove the battery, then make sure that the No.1 piston must be at the top centre, next remove the air intake duct, wiring harness and igniter of the ignition coil. Disconnect the electrical connectors, then remove the rocker arm cover, and the timing belt middle cover so that the camshaft pulleys are in line. Take off the camshaft sprockets as well as the side engine mount bracket, thereafter, slacken the rocker arm adjusting screws and finally, take off the camshaft holders. Place the camshaft seals, while an application of oil should be made on the rocker arms before placing them as they were. Bolt the camshaft holders, timing belt back cover as well as the side engine mount bracket back onto the engine but make sure tightened to factory recommended torque. Change the position of the valves, place the rocker arm cover and reconnect the battery. For the 2.7L engine Torque the bolt on the underside of the camshaft shield, then remove the battery, timing belt covers, camshafts, rocker arms as well as the valve lifters while taking the pictures of specific parts to ensure you do refer them correctly later. Tighten the rocker arms and shafts as well as reinstall the cylinder heads and intake manifold back to the engine block. Apply motor oil on each spot in the lifter bosses and install the valve lifters and the rocker arms adjust. Place the camshafts and the timing belt right and also tighten the rocker arm cover with the required torque. Lastly, join the battery and sure to check for leakage. In the 3.0L engine, some of the operations include; removing of the valve cover, then loosening of the adjuster and the rockers arm shaft bolts before lifting the whole rocker arm. Wipe off all the parts, re-stake the rocker arm assemblies and tighten all the bolts, in the appropriate order. Lift the motor and bend or remove the valves, put back the rocker arm covers.
