    Q:
How do you remove and install the rear upper Control Arm on Honda Prelude? Posted by Customer
    A:
To remove and install the rear suspension components on an Accord, begin by raising and securely supporting the vehicle, then remove the rear wheels. Use a floor jack to support the knuckle and lower control arm while compressing the strut. Detach the upper ball joint by removing the castle nut cap, cotter pin, and castle nut, utilizing a ball joint separator tool. Unbolt and take out the upper control arm, checking it and the bushing for wear or damage; replace the upper control arm if the ball joint is faulty. For installation, use new self-locking nuts for the suspension components, install the upper arm, hand-tighten the mounting bolts, and reconnect it to the knuckle. Tighten the castle nut at the ball joint to 32 ft. lbs. and install a new cotter pin along with the castle nut cap. Reattach the rear wheels, lower the vehicle, and tighten the upper mounting bolts to 28 ft. lbs. and the wheel nuts to 80 ft. lbs. Finally, check and adjust the rear wheel alignment. For the Prelude, the process is similar: raise and support the vehicle, remove the rear wheels, and support the knuckle and lower control arm assembly. Use a ball joint separator tool to detach the upper ball joint, then remove the strut mounting nuts and the self-locking nuts from the upper arm anchor bolts without disassembling the upper arm. If any components are faulty, the entire upper arm must be replaced. Install the upper control arm assembly into the strut tower, reconnect the upper ball joint, and reattach the rear wheels. With all wheels on the ground, torque the upper control arm nuts to 47 ft. lbs. and the castle nut to 32 ft. lbs., ensuring to lighten it just enough to install a new cotter pin. Tighten the wheel nuts to 80 ft. lbs., reposition the trunk side trim, and check and adjust the rear end wheel alignment. The upper control arm bushings are integral to the control arm, and if they are worn or damaged, the entire control arm must be replaced as an assembly.
