Detach the cable from the negative terminal of the battery, ensuring you have the correct activation code for the radio if it has an anti-theft system. Mark and detach the electrical connector and any ground straps from the alternator. Loosen the alternator adjusting bolt and pivot bolt, then detach the drivebelt by loosening the adjustment bolt located at the bottom of the alternator. Remove the adjusting and pivot bolts to separate the alternator from the engine, taking care to remove the alternator bracket and lower the unit through the bottom while angling it around the engine block. If replacing the alternator, bring the old one to ensure the new or rebuilt unit matches in appearance, terminal configuration, and identification numbers. Be aware that many new or rebuilt alternators may not come with a pulley, so check the shop's policy regarding pulley transfers, as some may offer this service at no extra cost. Installation follows the reverse order of removal, and after installation, adjust the drivebelt tension and check the charging voltage to confirm the alternator is operating correctly.
